The Life Aquatic [Jan. 3rd, 2005|02:03 am]
Scrambled Porn

I really didn't enjoy The Life Aquatic, even despite a notable fondness for previous Wes Anderson movies (my favorite being Rushmore). I chuckled a couple of times and appreciated seeing Willem Defoe in a comedy but that aside I was completely bored. I've been looking forward to the film for some time and was disappointed that I just couldn't get into it.

Heather proposed leaving a quarter the way through, but I kept hoping it would pick up. And it did. But not enough to salvage my opinion of the movie.

Tomorrow we're going to watch Bottle Rockets again.

agreed. it was bullshit, as if the writing and character development that it needed were replaced with shorthand. murray was phoning it in ala lost in transalation. even the music editing was off, which is jarring for an anderson movie - it's usually so good.

the best thing about it was the set design and the fucking shark.

I definitely enjoyed the set design. And while I did enjoy the shark specifically, one of the worst thing about it was the really obvious computer generated fish they had in a few scenes.

Oh definitely. My enjoyment of the computer-stop motion fish was limited to the obviously-fake-by-design shark.
